The new Collaboratory at St Andrew’s school was based on the school’s vision of a teaching space to support ‘New technologies and strategies for engaging young people in creative learning experiences’,
The geometry of the new building was derived from existing diagonal geometries intrinsic to the site together with the distinctive school logo based on the cross of St Andrew.
Lighting was a key feature of the project, expressing and emphasising spatial geometry. The lighting configuration was developed over numerous iterations to achieve the required levels of illumination in coordination with building services, structural geometry and functional constraints.
